Every now and then, I get on a little "creative kick" where digital art becomes an expression and extension of my heart's prayers. When I stumbled across this image from a trip to New Zealand my hubby and I took a few years ago, this verse was instantly on my mind.
There are so many things in life that would overwhelm us and flood our hearts with sorrow. The brokenness of this world, the brokenness of our communities, and the brokenness in our own hearts weighs heavy. But, it shall not overwhelm us. Christ is with us.
I hope this lifts your heart today, as it did mine, wherever you're at in life xx

Romans 5:1 - Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Faith in Jesus' finished work on the cross not only gifts us eternal life in heaven, but gives us PEACE with God. Through Jesus we have a right relationship with the Father. Through Jesus we are pure and redeemed.

Whenever this verse comes to mind, I always think of Corrie Ten Boom - perhaps because she, too, took refuge in God's secret place and provided refuge to others in a time of need.
What a beautiful promise, that if we abide in HIS secret place we might be sheltered under his shadow. Ever protected. Ever safe.

On this resurrection Sunday, it is a beautiful thing to remember my risen Saviour. This verse has been on my heart all week & I've been particularly meditating on the phrase "as He said." Jesus promised to rise again. He promised redemption, and he completed it. We serve a God who keeps His promises.
I love the beautiful story that traces through all of the Old Testament - starting with God's promise to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:15), the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12), the Jewish sacrifices that were mere pictures of perfect redemption to come and a reminder of man's inadequacy to redeem himself, Isaiah 53's prophecy, and so much more. Redemption and reconciliation were always on God's heart, and as we trace the pictures and prophecies all the way to the cross, we see perfect fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The resurrection was the culmination and completion of all that came before, as God purchased freedom for mankind.
I also love the words directly after this statement, "Come, see the place where the Lord lay." While I may not be able to travel to Israel and see the physical empty tomb, Christ invites me through the eyes of faith to see. The tomb is empty. What a wonderful truth to rejoice in.

Not too many people know this about me, but I feel that it is time to share it. Over the past year I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I have struggled with forms of one or the other intermittently for years, but never to the extent that I have recently. While this diagnosis has been hard to accept, I am beginning to understand that perhaps God has a purpose.
As I was thinking on some of the mental battles I have faced recently, this verse came to my mind and it was on my heart to share it with you all. This verse has been precious to me for many years, as my Nanna used to quote it to me when it was a child, but today I reflected anew on the applications this verse has for my life today. God does not want his children to live life in a state of turmoil, and even in the darkest of days I can cling to promises like these. I hope that you find comfort meditating on this scripture, as I have.
If you are struggling, I strongly encourage you to reach out and seek help whether that's from a friend, family member, pastor/minister, or a medical professional. Know that you are not alone in this battle, and with the right treatment and the Lord by your side you can recover (preaching to myself here too! :) ).
