A Sound Mind - 2 Timothy 1:7

June 07, 2017

Not too many people know this about me, but I feel that it is time to share it. Over the past year I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I have struggled with forms of one or the other intermittently for years, but never to the extent that I have recently. While this diagnosis has been hard to accept, I am beginning to understand that perhaps God has a purpose.

As I was thinking on some of the mental battles I have faced recently, this verse came to my mind and it was on my heart to share it with you all. This verse has been precious to me for many years, as my Nanna used to quote it to me when it was a child, but today I reflected anew on the applications this verse has for my life today. God does not want his children to live life in a state of turmoil, and even in the darkest of days I can cling to promises like these. I hope that you find comfort meditating on this scripture, as I have.

If you are struggling, I strongly encourage you to reach out and seek help whether that's from a friend, family member, pastor/minister, or a medical professional. Know that you are not alone in this battle, and with the right treatment and the Lord by your side you can recover (preaching to myself here too! :) ).

God bless,
Hannah x

    1. May GOD bless you through this. I have anxiety and really has been a struggle. GOD is real and deserves all the praise we can give him. HE has been showing in my darkest times he has been there. And I'm not alone with this. Thank you for sharing your story. Love in CHRIST, my sister

  2. Hi Hannah, I stumbled upon your blog a few months ago and I'm happy I did! I love the pictures and verses! I've tried to use them for my phone, but part of the verses won't fit. Would you design some to use as phone wallpapers?

    1. Hi Meichel! I'm so glad you're enjoying the wallpapers. Yes, phone lock screens are something I have considered doing. I have one at the moment over on my second blog (a more personal, craft oriented blog) if you want to check it out. http://simplylovely21.blogspot.com.au/2017/06/be-kind-iphone-lockscreen.html
But it's definitely something I'll consider doing more of in the future :)

  3. Hannah,
I just wanted to share with you what a blessing it is to hear someone share authentically about their struggles, yet still remain solidly grounded in God's truth. I too have struggled with depression but I refuse to accept it as part of my identity...I know I am not alone; I have reached out to many people and received lots of great counseling, and things are getting better. I came here looking for a 2 Corinthians 5:17 wallpaper to remind me of my identity in Christ...you might want to try that for a future wallpaper! But I love 2 Timothy 1:7, so I will make that my wallpaper for now.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your mutual struggles. Good on your for being brave enough to reach out for counselling - I know my Pastors have been a great help to me along my journey as well as others. I agree that it's important to remember that your mental health is not your identity - it may feel all-consuming at times but it is not YOU. <3 Pray things keep getting better for you!
I'll work on that. I have a whole stack of photos ready to create wallpapers xx
