"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
Psalm 23:3
Psalm 23:3
In my quiet times recently I've been reading through the book of Psalms, and as I read and meditated on Psalm 23 the Lord taught me some things and it was a blessing to my heart. So, I thought I'd share with you what I got out of this Psalm, and, of course, a Bible wallpaper to go with it :)
When I was reading Psalm 23, this verse in particular "jumped out" at me and spoke to my heart. Each part of this verse is so beautiful.
"He restoreth my soul..." Restore - to make new, to bring to life again. When I thought of the word restore, I thought of the way that people restore antique things. In order for it to be restored, all the rust and dirt must be removed and sanded away, after this it is given a new coat of paint.
This reminded me of the work Christ does in our hearts at salvation: He washes all the sin from our hearts with the blood of the Lord Jesus, then clothes us in the righteousness of Christ. No longer does God see us with rusty old hearts filled with sin, but rather He sees our new identity in the righteousness of Jesus.
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Not only does God restore our hearts at salvation, but He daily restores our hearts as we meditate in His word daily.
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
"He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness..." The Lord will lead us in the right way to live for Him. We cannot walk righteously in our own strength.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
"For His name's sake." Walking with the Lord and walking righteously will bring glory to our Saviour's name, He leads us in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Thanks for reading and I hope that by sharing what I gained from this passage of scripture you were blessed :)
Love and blessings,
Hannah :)
