Mark 10:27 "And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible."
I was reading through Mark 10 a couple of weeks
ago, and as I read and considered these verses they were a blessing to me, so I thought
I’d share what I learned.
When looking at the context of this verse, we see that a
rich young ruler had just come to Jesus asking what he could do to obtain
eternal life. This rich young ruler was clearly a very religious man, who
obeyed the letter of the law, but yet it wasn’t enough to save him. After the
young ruler had left, the disciples asked and wondered, “Who then can be saved?”
Jesus’ reply has two parts to it, and as I looked at it,
this is what stood out to me:
“For with men it is
impossible…”
We cannot have a hope of saving ourselves. No matter how
religious or good you are, you can never do enough to save yourself. (As it was
in the case of the young ruler) Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one:”
“but not with God: for with God all things are
possible…”
What an amazing truth. We cannot save ourselves, yet by the
sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ we can be saved, by simply believing on Him
and trusting in the work He did, and not our own “good works” Isaiah
64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a
leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Emphasis mine)
Hope you have had a blessed Lord’s day!!
